Sherpa! Profile: Carlos Martinez

  March 19th, 2012

Carlos Martinez is a sherpa's sherpa.

As Sherpa! Web Studios’ Senior Infrastructure Strategist, Carlos is the wise trail guru, whose experience pioneering and traversing computer science and engineering trails provides knowledge and familiarity with the most complex digital terrain. His keen depth of expertise makes him essential in the design, programming, and delivery of special projects.

Carlos undertook his adventure in programming in the late 1980s with a computer connected to a television. He learned to program in more languages than he professes to remember, from BASIC and dBase III to C++ and Perl/PHP/Python today. In 1997, Carlos installed his first web server at the Faculty of Engineering, one of many academic environments Carlos would call home professionally.

His other guiding roles today include Computer Networking & Security at the University of  the Republic (Uruguay).

When off the digital path, Carlos can be found in the water scuba diving. He also enjoys traveling throughout Europe and reading of late about WWI and WWII sea battles. “I’m fascinated by D-Day,” Carlos says. “The sheer magnitude of the whole operation just blows my mind.” Just like Carlos himself.
