If you are reading this post, chances are you also have a Facebook account. That's because nearly 3/4 of all Internet users in the U.S. have an account on the social network behemoth. But, that's small potatoes when you consider that 10% of the world's population is on Facebook. Think about that for a moment -- of the 6 billion+ human beings on this planet, 600 million log-in to leave a comment, upload a photo, or post a status update. That's simply incredible.
Facebook has become a way of life for young Americans. Nearly half of 18-34 year olds check Facebook right when they wake up, the same percentage that say they find out about news through Facebook.
What is the most frequent activity on Facebook? Perhaps you guessed uploading photos. In fact, 750 million photos were uploaded to Facebook on New Year's Weekend 2011 alone. However, it's not photos. Rather, it's commenting. Facebook receives over 8500 comments posted every second. Not surprisingly, 57% of people talk more online than in real-life.
So does Facebook matter to your marketing strategy? Yes, yes, a thousand times yes.
